The Grange Book Launch

The book, Grange Past & Present, was launched on 25th November 2015 at Clancy's Bar & Restaurant in Bruff, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland. Appropriately, the launch was dedicated to Thomas Conway of Rahin, a young man who died suddenly a few months after he had written an article for the book. A tribute to Thomas is to be found in the book. His family attended the launch.

The official launch was performed by local man, George Clancy, renowned international rugby referee.

A large gathering of parishioners and many from elsewhere witnessed the launch. Most of them snatched up copies of the book before departing home after a great celebratory evening. George Clancy and the book committee members were in great demand to sign copies of the book and to pose for photographs with proud book owners.

Miriam Gallagher (chairperson of the book committee) was a wonderful master of ceremonies on the occasion. In addition to Miriam (author of book Preface), other speakers included Kieran Hourigan, Chairman of Grange Cross Residents Association (GCRA), Dr Éamonn Ó hÓgáin (author of the book Réamhrá/Foreword), Alice Brennan (book designer and graphic artist), Mary Gallagher (co-editor), Tommy Hourigan (co-editor) and George Clancy. Declan Hehir was on photographer duties.

A number of book presentations were made and an exciting raffle took place. To mark the occasion for him, a silver whistle was presented to George, who, to great amusement, proceeded 'to blow up' an infringement that he detected in the crowd! He gave his decision without having to 'go upstairs' for clarification!

Many members of the Grange Community came together to plan the event, and thanks to their endeavours, the event was a great success.
